Tucker is a HANDSOME 2.5 year old Lemonhead English Pointer. He and Shirley were owner-returns to IBR, due to divorce. Tucker is very camera shy. Just pointing the camera in his direction is enough to get him up looking for another place to be.
In all other ways, though, he is a LOVE. He is cat safe, although he will chase them a bit. If they hiss at him, he will turn around and tip-toe away. This morning he was "trapped" in the bathroom, as one of the cats was sitting in the hallway outside the bathroom door. He wouldn't pass her until I stepped between them (scary, scary, scary). On the other hand, I decided to sit in bed and read for a while. He joined me and both resident dogs - and both cats - on the bed. He seemed pretty comfortable till he got bored with us.
He is working on leash skills, but I've certainly had bigger challenges than he is. He knows "sit", and seems to know "stay" - a little. "Down" (as in lay down) seems to be new to him, but he's willing to learn. He might know it by a different command word. He is good at meal-time, waiting patiently for me to give him his food, and eating well. He is good at waiting for others to get their food first - or will be happy to take his first if that's what I do. I can take his bowl away from him without complaint (and then give it back, of course), but he doesn't want the other dogs to take it.
On the whole, he is a passive boy. If the girls jump on him, he lays down and says "anything you want".
After you get past his initial shyness, he comes out of his shell, and has a really nice personality.
I took him to the dog park today, and he handled BEAUTIFULLY off-leash. He checked in a lot, and he was almost never out of sight. He was a joy to have there, and he had a really good time. We arranged to meet some friends there, so he was the only boy in a crowd of four girls (one Pointer and three Setters). He loved it! When it was time to go, he was completely ready to put on his leash and go back to the car. He's sleeping in the living room right now.
